Hi I am Audrey ! One of the newest counselors at Coastal Wellness.
A little about me :
Raised in Southern California by a naval pilot and a school teacher, my parents always made
personal growth and wellness a priority. Since a young age, I spent most of my time in a science
classroom as I witnessed my mother prepare science lessons and conduct experiments with her
students. The science were always influenced in my family home given both of my parents
professions. Shortly after I graduated high school, I made the decision to major with my
Bachelors degree in Psychology as the psychological sciences seemed to interest me the most.
Upon my entrance into my undergraduate program, I developed a passion for learning about the
brain and mental health to better help those in need of psychological services.
After my first year of college, I experienced uncertainty in the direction of psychology I wanted
to take, post-graduation, so I explored different avenues of the field. Alongside obtaining my
degree, I took a job supporting the missions towards Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) in
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After serving on the contract for 18 months, I decided to explore
another avenue of psychology in Southern Pines, NC. In this new position I took on the role of a
psychometrician, conducting assessments for brain and memory disorders under supervision of a
Neuropsychologist. This job further developed into research for mood disorders in patients with
Parkinson’s disease. From this job, I developed a passion for research and working with patients
to instill hope for a better future.
Alongside working in neuropsychology, I also took on the certification course to become a
Registered Yoga Teacher. I have been a practitioner and teacher of yoga for approximately 7
years now.
After fulfilling my contract in the neuropsychological sciences, I relocated to Nashville, TN in
which I decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Given my
experience in working with counterterrorism and older adults, I decided to lean my education
towards children to gain more experience and broaden my scope of expertise. In my journey of
learning about early childhood development through mental health counseling, I took on
trainings in the specialty of Play Therapy and Trauma Processing therapy.
I am still a student; however! I am currently obtaining my PhD in Clinical Counseling, Teaching
and Supervision with intent to inspire the practice of the younger counselor generations.
On my free time, I enjoy live music, time with my children, painting, and exploring art galleries,
the ocean, exploring mountains, chasing waterfalls, and connecting with the community.
Today, I practice as a mindfulness-based clinician in addition to incorporating tools from
sandtray therapy, expressive arts therapy, EMDR, and Family Systems. I also look at therapy
from the lens of helping others to tap into their strengths to live more meaningful lives. It is my
goal for clients to gain deeper understandings of themselves and the world they live in, with hope
to create more opportunities to live well.
